Scaling Venture Operations

Tell us about yourself.

I grew up in Michigan and moved to New York to attend college. Prior to AngelList, I worked in finance to support multiple acquisitions at The LiveKindly Collective and collaborated with brands such as Dove, Ben & Jerry’s, and The Dollar Shave Club at Unilever. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time in Central Park, web development, and bouldering.

Describe the Venture Associate role in one sentence.

The role of a Venture Associate is to partner with fund managers across the lifecycle of a venture fund — streamlining operations and simplifying the investment process.

How did your previous jobs at Unilever and LiveKindly prepare you for the role?

My prior roles in finance/operations taught me to approach problems analytically and communicate effectively. These traits prepared me for the Venture Associate role to build new internal processes and effectively manage relationships with clients.

What have you learned working as a Venture Associate?

As a Venture Associate, I’ve had the opportunity to close over a hundred investments, launch multiple venture funds, and partner closely with industry leaders. This experience has inspired me to tackle big problems and be genuinely curious.

What advice would you give Venture Associate applicants?

The startup economy moves fast and is always innovating. My advice would be to embrace this change — and stay in tuned with the ecosystem through blogs, industry newsletters, and podcasts. The more you’re able to immerse yourself within the industry, the more you’ll feel confident in the ability to support your GPs.
